Feng Shui Interior Design : The Element of Water

Many interior designers stress on including the five elements of Feng Shui in home décor so as to allow energy or chi to flow through the space. Water, one of the five elements of feng shui, is one of the most powerful forces of nature. Water can be moving or still, liquid, gaseous or even solid and can hence be represented in many different ways through your home décor.

Flowing Water

The most obvious way or symbolizing water in home décor is by installing a fountain or an aquarium as part of your living room design. You could also place a bowl of water on a table top. Not only does a bowl of water introduce the water element to the décor plan , it is also versatile and can be dressed up with floating candles or flower petals.

Reflections

Reflective surfaces are another way to introduce water into living room designs. Wall mirrors are the easiest way to begin. Crystal vases, bowls etc with cutwork detailing also represents the flow of water. Glass is also representative of the water element and can easily be included in interior design plans in the form of glass furniture, artifacts etc.

Colour

Dark colours represent the depth of water. To indicate water through colours, choose from any shade from blue to black. The shades of blue can be used in any part of the house from bathroom designs to living room design and kitchen design. It can also be used as part of bedroom décor but should be used sparingly so as to not make the room feel cold.

Art

Even the smallest room has place for Feng Shui. A small framed image of clear water in the form of a meandering river, a gushing waterfall or a lakeside can aid the flow of energy in a room. You could also create a large mural to decorate a wall with the element of water.

Asymmetrical Shapes

Water is mostly fluid in nature and hence can be represented through shapes that are wavy and asymmetric. Organic shaped rugs and tables are ideal examples of asymmetry in living room designs. Also take a look at asymmetric vases, throws and even regular shaped objects with wavy patterns on them.

Shimmer

When it comes to fabrics for window drapes, choose sheers and shimmering fabrics to indicate water. Sheers can also be used as room dividers. Adding sequins on existing cushions can give them a new life and simultaneously increase the energy flow in a room.

If you still need a reason to decorate with the water element of Feng Shui keep in mind how water is also an ancient symbol of abundance and abundance attracts abundance.
