How difficult can it be to buy a tap? Choosing suitable faucets, shower heads and other such bathroom fixtures are essential to completing the perfect bathroom design. The quickest and most inexpensive way to makeover a bathroom is to change the fixtures. Here’s what you should keep in mind when you select bathroom fixtures.
Finish
To make the most of your bathroom design, coordinate all the fixtures such as towel bars, lighting fixtures, faucets, door hardware etc to have the same finish. Choose between popular finishes like chrome, brass, nickel, brushed copper and bronze or matte black and satin gold. While selecting a finish for your bathroom fixtures, remember that though polished finishes are elegant, they require constant upkeep while brushed matt finishes might look a little less glamorous but are better at hiding water spots and fingerprints.
Size
If your bathroom design is part of a remodeling project it is essential to note measurements such as sink size, how many openings does the washbasin have for faucets and distance of opening from the sink bowl. These measurements will determine the type of fixtures you can pick. For example if the washbasin is a single-hole small sink you would need to select a centerset lavatory faucet. Ideally though, all fixtures should be bought together to ensure that they fit each other.
Controls
With technology there is more than one way to control a faucet or shower head. When choosing a faucet, the choices range from touch sensitive controls and faucets with motion sensors to pullout faucets and more traditional faucets with twist and turn controls.
Features
With bathroom fixtures such as showers, features play the most important part in making a selection. Traditional showerheads are the most affordable and today even these offer varied spray patterns. Overhead showerheads are also very popular but often have only one setting that allows water to fall from above at a low rate. Higher end shower fixtures include Body spa and body mist showers and may need special installation and plumbing requirements.
Pressure
Many places in India face severe water shortage. Hence, when choosing plumbing fixtures for your bathroom design you also need to keep water pressure in mind. If you have low water pressure in your home look for showerheads specially designed for low water pressure use. Some shower heads also allow you to vary water pressure levels and get a stronger flow when needed. Faucet spouts are either aerated or non aerated. Aerators in faucets are similarly designed for homes with low water pressure. The aerator mixes air with water and limits the flow of water while simultaneously improving water pressure.
